The Lighthouse Keeper's Daughter

After her father disappears during a winter storm, a young woman takes over the lighthouse he tended for thirty years. The village calls it an accident. She does not.

Among his belongings she finds a logbook, and the entries from his final week describe a ship that no harbour record shows ever existed. The handwriting grows unsteady toward the end.

Each night the lamp turns, and each night the same vessel appears on the horizon, a little closer than before. By the seventh night it is near enough that she can read the name on its hull, and it is a name she already knows.
