How it starts: the $20,000 job (episodes 1–10)

Olena, a scholarship law student, quits her restaurant job after her boss propositions her, with her father Frank's hospital bills piling up. She answers an ad paying $20,000 a month, assumes it is for a live-in housekeeper, and in episode 3 mistakes Anthony's stepmother Lisa for a rejected candidate and politely shows her out. Anthony hires her on the spot.

In episode 8 she signs an "exclusive companion agreement" without reading past the salary. She thinks she is a maid; Anthony needs her as a fake fiancée to keep Lisa from marrying him off for control of the company. Anthony decides to keep her in the dark, because someone who does not know she is acting is the most convincing actor of all.

The cast

  • Olena: a broke, sharp-tongued law student who counts every dollar.

  • Anthony: the cold CEO of Anthony Group, still haunted by what happened to his mother.

  • Lisa: his stepmother and the series' villain.

  • Eleanor: his grandmother and head of the family.

  • Clara: Anthony's late mother, framed and driven out of the family 15 years earlier.

  • Ricky and Louis: his prank-loving friend and his long-suffering butler.

Five schemes against the couple

  1. The million-dollar bribe (episodes 14–15): Eleanor pays Olena to leave; Anthony pays double for her to stay and declare her undying love.

  2. The broken orchid (episodes 16–17): Sophia Harper blames Olena, who matches Sophia's perfume to the snapped stem.

  3. The soup (episodes 19–21): Olena knocks a bowl out of Anthony's hand because Lisa had laced it with crab and shellfish extract, knowing his severe allergy.

  4. The stolen necklace (episodes 23–26): hidden-camera footage shows Lisa planting it, and reveals she framed Clara the same way 15 years ago. Lisa is thrown out.

  5. The gala setup (episodes 31–36): Lisa drugs Anthony and pays a woman named Vanessa to fake an affair. Anthony proves it with hotel footage, a toxicology report and Vanessa's confession.

Between those, Olena climbs the outside wall of the house in a storm to reach Anthony after he locks himself away, and confesses she loves him (episode 29). He answers in episode 30 with a new offer: a permanent contract, as his wife.

Why she leaves, and how he gets her back

The morning after the gala, Olena finds Anthony in a hotel room with Vanessa, throws back the ring and blocks him everywhere. Even after she believes his proof, she will not come home. As she puts it, a little more of that drug and he would have been dead, and he keeps acting as if he can control every risk alone. So Anthony goes on a hunger strike until his grandmother helps, and in episode 39 Eleanor tells Olena the company is bankrupt, the estate is being auctioned and Anthony is dying. Olena catches him hiding a steak, but stays for a seven-day trial anyway: she will not leave a broke, heartbroken man on his own.

For episodes 42–46 she runs the house on a budget, writes his resume, teaches him to mop and drops a shovel on him in the garden. Ricky then gives her "supplement" pills for Anthony that turn out to be an aphrodisiac, which pushes them into finally saying how they feel.

My CEO and His Cleaning Fiancée ending explained

In episode 50, Olena shows up for a $200 gig as a bride in a wedding photo shoot. The groom is Anthony. He confesses that Anthony Group never went bankrupt: the auction, the debts and the unpaid staff were all Eleanor's invention. Olena is furious that she weeded his garden for free, but he points to what the fake bankruptcy showed him: she was ready to start over with him when she thought he had nothing. He proposes properly, she makes him swear never to lie again, and they say their vows. Her last question is where her $200 went. His answer: $400, plus a lifetime bonus.
