Eleanor, a Spirit Deer princess, has already died twice: once after Theodore of the Tiger Clan sold her to a military camp, once when Alfred cut her unborn child from her womb. In Wrong Crown, she wakes a third time at the mate selection ceremony, and both men pass her floral crown to an old slave because they love her sister, Rosalind. The Wrong Crown ending turns them down for good. When they learn Rosalind stole the credit for Eleanor's rescues and beg for a chance, Eleanor refuses, leaves with her maid Matilda under a new name, and Theodore makes Rosalind a prisoner.

A crown thrown to the wrong men

This 16+ fantasy drama starts at the mate selection ceremony, with Eleanor beside Rosalind for the third time. In episodes 2 and 3 she recalls why: in her first life Theodore sold her to a military camp, and in her second, Alfred, her fox-shifter childhood friend, cut the baby from her womb, and both she and the child died. Only then did she realize they had always loved Rosalind.

Spirit Deer princesses toss handmade floral crowns from a high platform, and whoever catches one becomes the thrower's betrothed. Eleanor's crown flies toward Theodore, now a decorated general, and Alfred, a royal tutor. They exchange a glance and shove it into an old slave's hands, then tell her their hearts belong to Rosalind.

In episode 4 Eleanor is reminded that she once sneaked out to save Theodore, fell from a cliff and was nearly beaten to death for it by her father, the Deer King. She declares the selection void and leaves her marriage to her father. The men have made a pact: they would rather stay single than marry her. "As you wish," she says.

Rosalind's stolen rescue

In episode 5 Eleanor destroys Matilda's indenture and sends her away, unable to protect even herself. Rosalind asks the king for both men and gets her way; Eleanor will marry his chosen mate in three days.

In episode 6 Theodore knocks Eleanor down with a stone to the back of her knee and rips away a necklace his mother said belonged to his savior and future mate. Alfred takes back his family bracelet. They say Rosalind saved Theodore's life and Alfred's entire clan, and that Eleanor, who "never even left the palace," stole the credit for three years. Eleanor answers:

"Fine. You'll get your wish. I also hope you won't regret it."

Episode 7 confirms that Eleanor did sneak out to save them, and only her father and Matilda knew. Matilda comes back, refusing to be sent away, and Rosalind tries to burn Eleanor's wedding dress with her flames. In episode 8 a wild horse tramples Eleanor's right leg while Theodore calls it her lesson for bullying Rosalind. The decree follows: Rosalind will marry both men, and Eleanor is sent to the Leopard Clan, which Matilda warns is extremely dangerous.

The scar that proves who saved them

At the shabby carriage in episode 10, Theodore grabs Eleanor's wrist and accuses her of begging to mate with the Leopard King. Matilda tears into him: Eleanor fell off a cliff to save him, has been ill with scarred legs ever since, and he let his horse trample her. In episode 11 she tells Alfred that Eleanor also sneaked out to clear his name, and brings up a centipede-shaped scar on the rescuer's leg.

In episode 12 Alfred admits that he has seen that scar and a chest wound on Eleanor. He offers to marry her as compensation, and she calls him naive. When Matilda asks why she won't make them investigate, Eleanor answers:

"Right or wrong, truth or lies, it's all meaningless now."

The men send for the records of the hunting attack and Alfred's family case, and in episode 14 Theodore reads the letter and coughs up blood. Episode 15 spells it out: Rosalind never even showed up three years ago, and she claimed the credit knowing Eleanor's trip out of the palace was never recorded. Both men ride after the carriage.

Wrong Crown ending explained: no chance left to give

In short: Alfred knocks Eleanor out with magic to stop her carriage, and the two men break their engagement to Rosalind and beg her forgiveness. In the Wrong Crown ending, Eleanor refuses, Alfred agrees to let her go, and she settles under a new name with Matilda on the border of the Deer and Fox lands, while Theodore makes Rosalind a prisoner.

In episode 16 Eleanor tells the driver to keep going, and Alfred uses magic on the curtain; she loses consciousness. She wakes in episode 18 with both men kneeling by the bed. In episode 19 they say the Deer King planned to use her as a pawn against them, so they switched the bride for the Leopard alliance and gave her a new identity.

Eleanor turns away from Alfred's hand, and in episode 20 she recounts how she died. Theodore claimed she had died of a fever and threw her into a border camp, where she was forced into prostitution until she froze and starved in the snow. Alfred, after Rosalind was scarred, followed a folk remedy and cut her unborn child from her while she slept.

In episode 21 she tells Alfred that Rosalind's face was never even scarred; Rosalind ate allergenic plants to take both their lives. In episode 22 Theodore draws his sword to stab himself, Alfred snatches the blade, and Eleanor tells them to kill her right now or let her go. In episode 23 Eleanor asks:

"Did you give me a chance when you passed my crown to that slave?"

She tells them they are repulsive and she will never forget what they did. Alfred agrees to let her go, as Theodore stares at him in disbelief. Eleanor and Matilda change their names and buy a small house on the border, but the bloody memories still wake her every night.

Episode 24 settles the capital without her. Alfred strips the dying king of power, and the king abandons Rosalind. Theodore drags Rosalind to a derelict courtyard outside the city and repays every scheme exactly as it happened. The Wrong Crown ending gives Eleanor what she asked for in episode 9: never having to lay eyes on them again.

  • Theodore: rejected, and Rosalind's jailer.
