In The Blood Vow, Cassia Vale comes home from three years of war against the Abyss as the city's Frost Valkyrie, pregnant with another man's child. She calls her husband, Kairos Thorn, a powerless mortal and demands his family's sacred relic for her lover. The Blood Vow ending turns everything over: Kairos is the Regent, the most powerful man in the city, and her hero, Grand Marshal Adrian Krovis, is a traitor working for the Abyss. Kairos burns their blood contract, Cassia kills Adrian, and she leaves for the frontier for good, never to see Kairos again.
A war hero's child and three demands
This 16+ drama opens in Thorn Temple, where Kairos is treated as a sickly, useless husband. In episode 2 Cassia returns in glory as the Frost Valkyrie after three years in the Abyss, and the crowd sees that she is pregnant.
In episode 3 Cassia refuses to name the father, even though her whole family has lived in Thorn Temple for three years at Kairos's expense. Before offering him money as compensation, she tells him:
"Kairos, we may share a marriage on paper, but this child has nothing to do with you."
Cassia's three demands follow in episodes 5 and 6. Kairos must raise the child, whose father is Grand Marshal Adrian Krovis, a common soldier who rose to the top in three years. Adrian will take the master bedroom. And Kairos must hand over the Heart of Kronos so Adrian can use the Thorn family's ancient power, a secret Kairos taught Cassia under a blood oath to keep her alive on the frontier.
When Kairos calls Adrian an outsider in episode 6, Cassia replies, "The father of my child isn't an outsider. To me, you are." Kairos refuses: if they want the Heart, they will have to kill him first (episode 8).
The chains come off in Thorn Temple
Episode 2 reveals the secret: Kairos is the only living heir of the God-King Kronos, and he sealed his divinity with the chains of Hephaestus because his Kronos fire would be too hot for Cassia's body. In episodes 9–10 he strips the metal off, and the Vales, who called the pieces scraps, find a single one too heavy to lift.
When Cassia comes for the Heart, Kairos's power drives her back. She asks how she never noticed her husband's divine power, and Kairos answers (episode 11):
"I've had divine power the whole time. You just never cared."
Adrian arrives, wounds Haldan with Abyss Chains and orders Kairos to his knees. In episode 12 the crowd says Adrian is second only to the High Regent, who has been in seclusion for three years and is expected to crown him.
In episode 16 Cassia vows to ask the Regent to end their sacred marriage. "Good. Tear it up. I've been praying for it," Kairos replies. He throws the Vales and Adrian out of Thorn Temple in episode 17 and cuts off every account and line of credit to the family in episode 19.
The Vales find out who paid for everything
Without Thorn Temple's money, the Vales cannot cover a 1,628-silver tavern bill and have to pool coins down to Adrian's shield-bearer (episodes 23–25). In episode 30 Adrian orders 83,000 silver worth of reagents at an apothecary and tells Cassia to pay in full. She admits in episode 31 that all her frontier supplies were funded by Kairos from the temple's reserves.
To settle the bill, Adrian makes her give up her Crimson Frostlance spear, a wedding gift Kairos made with his own hands (episodes 33–34). Cassia calls it mortal scrap, and then it is identified as a lost relic with a star sealed in the spearhead. Kairos has Haldan pay the owner 100,000 Kronos divine coins for the spear: "I'm buying it, so no one unworthy gets to touch it."
In episode 36 Kairos and Haldan recognize the reagents as forbidden drugs that suppress divinity, and Kairos sends his Shadow Guard to investigate Adrian's frontier past.
The coronation meant to ruin Kairos
At the Pantheon in episode 45, Kairos refuses to kneel for the Regent's arrival, and the hall learns the Regent personally granted him that right three years ago. Cassia still asks the High Council's Elder to dissolve the blood contract and give her Kairos's relic, temple and lands (episode 46), and in episode 48 she admits she taught Adrian the Thorn family's ancient power herself.
In episode 50 the hall is told the Regent is already in the chamber. Adrian attacks Kairos with the stolen ancient power in episodes 52–54, until the Elder warns that Adrian is alive only because Kairos has not unsealed himself.
Then Haldan presents the Shadow Guard's evidence (episodes 56–57): a soul contract signed in Adrian's own hand, and proof that his famous northern victory was a blood ruse built on sacrificed low-tier demons. In episode 58 Cassia still stands by Adrian: "I don't care about the evidence. I trust his heart."
The Blood Vow ending explained: the Regent in rags
In short: Adrian confesses he serves the Abyss, and Kairos is revealed as the Regent, the most powerful man in the city. Kairos burns his blood contract with Cassia, she kills Adrian, and Kairos grants her request to return to the frontier for life, telling her they will never meet again.
Cornered, Adrian kills the Grand Steward and confesses that his 50,000 elite troops were Abyss demons in disguise, ready for a full-scale assault (episodes 59–60). He calls the Abyss into the hall and admits the Abyss Lord promised him the title King of Southern Shadow and an Abyss-born princess (episodes 61–62). Then he turns on Cassia and threatens to throw her into an Abyss camp (episode 63).
Adrian attacks again and ends up pinned under Kairos's chains (episode 63). In episode 65 the Abyss warlock at Adrian's side names the man in rags: the Regent himself, sole judge of the Divine Realm. Cassia realizes the god she spent her life chasing was the husband she mocked for three years.
In episode 68 Adrian urges Cassia to kill Kairos, promising to make her his demon queen, and she blames her husband for hiding the truth. In episode 69 Kairos asks her:
"When you made the vows, were you marrying your husband's soul or the regent's crown?"
Kairos burns their blood contract to ash and gives Cassia one final chance to make the right choice. In episode 70 she kills Adrian, and Kairos sends the Abyss creatures and the warlock to the death cells. The council leaves Cassia's fate to him.
In episode 71 Cassia asks to spend the rest of her life on the frontier keeping the demons out, swearing never to pass through the city gates again. Kairos grants it and hands back the spear:
"There are a lot of demons for you to kill before you wash the shame off the Vale name."
Kairos's last words close The Blood Vow ending: their sacred bond is officially broken, and they will never meet again.
Where Kairos, Cassia and Adrian end up
Kairos Thorn: revealed as the Regent, free of the marriage and still holding the Heart of Kronos, but alone.
Cassia Vale: back on the frontier for life at her own request, with the spear Kairos made for her; the series never says what becomes of her pregnancy.
Adrian Krovis: exposed as the Abyss's pawn and killed by Cassia (episode 70).
Lucan and Cassia's mother: left for Kairos to judge, with no sentence shown on screen.
The Blood Vow ending gives Kairos justice without a reunion.
